PRESS STATEMENT

2016.7.20

“Those who have been sowing the seeds of seduction, malice and enmity for forty years on these lands under the guise of religion should realize that this has caused great harm to our nation.”

President of Religious Affairs (Diyanet) Prof. Dr. Mehmet Görmez said “Those who have been sowing the seeds of seduction, malice and enmity for forty years on these lands under the guise of religion should realize that this has caused great harm to our nation. This parallel structure (the Fethullan Gülen organization which is a religious order) which has lost its mind, intelligence and spirit to others has once again committed the greatest act of treason to our great religion, to righteousness, justice and compassion.”
In his statement President of Diyanet Görmez condemned the coup attempt.
Starting his address in the name of Allah the all merciful and the all compassionate President of Diyanet Görmez said “I offer my deep sympathies to every citizen. I wish Allah’s benediction to the sons and daughters of our nation who lost their lives in yesterday night’s event, to all our innocent martyrs. I wish speedy recovery for our wounded sons and daughters.”
“Those who have been sowing the seeds of seduction, malice and enmity for forty years on these lands under the guise of religion should realize that this has caused great harm to our nation last night. This parallel structure (the Fethullan Gülen organization which is a religious order) which has lost its mind, intelligence and spirit to others has once again committed the greatest act of treason against our great religion of Islam which means righteousness, justice and compassion. As a nation the day is the day of unity and solidarity.
“Deep gratitude to the Almighty for granting us the voices of the prayers that scuttled the coups instead of the coups that scuttled the call for prayers…”
“This is the day when we interlock as a nation, the day is the day when we bury the nightmare we experienced to the graveyard of history and rebuild our future and our fraternal bonds. I extend my deep gratitude to all the religious officials and our Diyanet community for keeping up the chanting of the prayers in all our mosques across the country throughout the night until dawn. I extend deep gratitude to the Almighty for granting us the voices of the prayers that scuttled the coups instead of the coups that scuttled the call for prayers. I do not think there would be a single citizen that would feel uncomfortable with the constant chanting of the prayers from our mosques as against the barrels of the guns targeted to our hearts and the F-16 jets making loud noises flying above our homes.
Everyone should be aware that our duty is not just to officiate prayers at mosques. Our duty is also to keep alive the spiritual and moral values of our beloved nation that has been a source of hope for the oppressed throughout history. It is our duty as people of faith to make an effort to promote independence and liberty in our country.”
“We received wishes of deep sympathy.”
President of Diyanet Görmez said there are oppressed nations that followed the developments in Turkey with tears last night and that the officials of religious affairs of other countries called him and the Turkish nation their deep sympathies.
President of Diyanet Görmez ended his statement saying “may Allah spare our nation, our country and all humanity from doom. I want to end my words with a verse from the Almighty. Do not feel remorse. Do not relax. If you believe you are the most supreme. I trust you in Allah’s safekeeping.”
