The “9th Eurasia Islamic Council” organized by the Office of the President of Religious Affairs (Diyanet) in İstanbul has been concluded.

The Council which hosted 120 delegates from 33 countries and discussed issues at sittings under the headlines “Unity and Solidarity Against the Exploitation of Islam and Religion in Eurasia and Future Perspectives”, “The Reflections of the FETÖ Movement in Eurasia as a Global Threat”, “Institutions That Generate Religious Knowledge in Eurasia”, “New Media and Religious Exploitation”, “DAESH, A Movement of Global Threat and Violence”, “Ways to Prevent Religious Exploitation and Solutions”. After a final evaluations session President of Diyanet Prof. Dr. Mehmet Görmez read out the final communique that concluded the Council.

Reading out the final communique after the Council following four days of deliberations President Of Diyanet Görmez underlined the following points:

The Fethullah Gülen Terrorist Organization (FETÖ) cannot be considered a religious community…

The decisions taken at the August 2016 “Extraordinary Religious Council” meeting were discussed by the participants at the Eurasia Islamic Summit and sides have fully agreed on the substance of the resolutions. It has been determined that even though the Fethullah Gülen Terrorist Organization (FETÖ) allegedly started off as a movement to serve the society in time it has become a part of a dirty acts network using Islam and Islamic values as an instrument for exploitation, has used every means as acceptable to reach its goals, has harmed and distorted the basic rules, beliefs and morals set by Islam and has ruined the basic notions and terms of Islam. Thus delegates have agreed that FETÖ cannot be regarded as a religious community. FETÖ is a terrorist group that uses power to serve its own interests and exploits religion that uses shady religious sources to produce knowledge, that destroys the unity of Islam, that violates the rights of the individual and the state, that abuses forms of worship like donations and alms, that tries to destroy tawhid (oneness of Allah, unity of the Almighty, and that Mohammed is the envoy of the Lord) in the name of dialogue between religions and is hiding behind a cloak of religion.

FETÖ has failed to fulfill the expectations of the Eurasia geography regarding Islam and has led a crooked religious discourse…

FETÖ has opened schools and has been involved in various activities with the so-called aim of filling the educational vacuum created after the disintegration of the Eastern Bloc in the Eurasia Geography and with the pretense of carrying the Muslim identity of Anatolia to these regions. The institutions FETÖ established were the vehicles of carrying out its secret political goals which is the product of a project. It has not only disappointed the people of these regions by failing to provide the correct and sound religious understanding but it has also failed to live up to their expectations of boosting their spiritual needs regarding Islam and has been the vanguard of a crooked religious discourse.

The greatest virtue is to correct mistakes. The path to repentance is always open…

After suffering all these bitter experiences there were those who sincerely took part in this structure and felt sympathy for it who regretted and severed their ties with it. It is clear that people with common sense will distance themselves with this structure with speed. The greatest virtue is to correct mistakes. The path to repentance is always open…

With their declarations and actions FETÖ and DAESH may been seen as opposites yet they are sources of evil that feed each other…

Al Qaeda and DAESH are terrorist organizations that have no historical or social place in the Eurasia geography and twist the Quran and the Sunnah (teachings of the Prophet) to create a basis for their actions. These organizations have not only harmed the traditional religious concepts for years but have used these regions to recruit manpower. FETÖ has presented itself as a representative of “moderate Islam” displaying tolerance, affection, peace and dialogue against the backdrop of these radical formations. As much as these organizations with their declarations and actions may seem completely opposite to each other in essence they are sources of evil that feed each other and use religion, national and humanitarian feelings using different methods to reach similar goals. Thus they have united to spoil the unity and solidarity among Muslim communities, create religious splits, conflict and chaos and thus prepare countries for eventual occupation.

These formations have spoilt concepts like tawhid, glorifying Allah, jihad, loyalty and faith…

These formations have not only spoilt concepts like tawhid, glorifying Allah, jihad, loyalty and faith but have also issued fatwas that are impermissible according to Islamic law. (Our request from the media is not to identify the leaders of such organizations as İmam) The most obvious forms of religious exploitation displayed by these organizations are the way they have tried to justify suicide bombings and how they have encouraged permitting actions regarded as impermissible by religion to cover their identities. No fatwa is legal of justified that approves violence, aggression and terrorism, that permits actions that are regarded as impermissible by religion or bans actions that are approved by religion irrespective of the cause or circumstances. We are observing with regret actions by the Western media and by certain circles to place Islam and terrorism side by side. To place Islam and terrorism together cannot be accepted in any fırm.

The most important step to prevent religious exploitation is to educate the young generations with healthy and sufficient religious knowledge…

In view of the facts mentioned above the most important step to prevent religious exploitation is to educate the young generations with healthy and sufficient religious knowledge… In view of the social drifts in the society experienced in modern times and in the age of ideologies we should not suffice with the traditional educational methods used throughout history and we should update our educational methods in view of the requirements of changing times. Religious institutions should be strengthened and bolstered to be able to fight against such organizations and religious educational programs that provide accurate information should be installed. Efforts to set up a “Eurasia Islamic Research Center” should be launched as a top priority in this regard. The center will study the deep rooted historical, cultural and religious approaches in Eurasia.

All kinds of religious comments and explanations that could lead to religious, sectarian and ethnic conflict should be avoided and all attempts to put affiliations above religion should be rejected…

All schools of thought in Islam that have emerged throughout history and have been accepted by Muslims represent the scientific richness and diversity of Islamic culture. So all kinds of religious comments and explanations that could lead to religious, sectarian and ethnic conflict should be avoided and all attempts to put affiliations above religion should be rejected…

A common awareness has to be created against sectarian and all kinds of ideological expansionism that do not fit the historical, social and religious fabric of the Eurasia geography…

From the early days of Islam the Eurasia geography from Transoxiana to the Balkans has been a geography of civilizations that have been groomed with science and wisdom thus setting the rich main path of Islam. A common awareness has to be created against sectarian and all kinds of ideological expansionism that do not fit the historical, social and religious fabric of the Eurasia geography. In these days when in many parts of the Islamic geography we are experiencing sectarianism strife the Eurasia Islamic Council has an important and valuable potential to deal with these issues and should be exploited because the fact that the members countries of this council display religious, cultural unity and harmony is the greatest antidote to face inner conflicts in the Islamic world.

Islamophobic actions have turned into a fanatic form of enmity towards Islam so much so that Muslim children living in Europe are being held responsible for the inhuman drama experienced in Syria…

After 9/11 Islamophobic actions have turned into a fanatic form of enmity, hatred and discrimination towards Islam so much so that Muslim children living in Europe are being held responsible for the inhuman drama experienced in Syria… Universal language has to be adopted and wise efforts have to be undertaken to eliminate the mistaken notions against Islam that are limiting the global living spaces of Muslims.

Divergent religious groups, terrorist based circles are actively using the internet and the social media to easily access Muslim youths…

Today communication and information technologies are being used to create ideological centers of attraction and the interest of the youths especially for technology are being used for religious exploitation. Divergent religious groups, terrorist based circles are actively using the internet and the social media to easily access Muslim youths… Thus our young people should be protected from the dirty propaganda in the virtual world, classical means of religious education and religious services provided for young people should be reviewed thus ways to reach out to the young people and provide them with accurate religious knowledge through technology should be devised. Medium and long term projections should be developed for religious publications and media. So in line with this religious institutions should be strengthened, healthy religious notions should be developed. A common publications platform should be established among the members of the Council under the leadership of the Office of the President of Diyanet.

Developments in recent years in the Islamic World has further enhanced the importance of the Eurasia Islamic Council…

Developments in recent years in the Islamic World has further enhanced the importance of the Eurasia Islamic Council… The institutional status of the Eurasia Islamic Council should be further developed so it can be more effective and its resolutions have more far reaching effect. So within this framework the Council has decided to establish a Fatwa Commission, a Religious Services Commission, a Religious Education Commission, Benevolence and Humanitarian Aid Commission and a Media and Religious Publications Commission that will work with the Secretariat of the Eurasia Islamic Secretariat in İstanbul to help fulfill its goals.
